An interesting game, though
suprisingly fun. Great multiplayer,
but graphics could use a
boost.

This game is great fun, most people can pick it up quickly, but there are always the few that don't quite understand how to flip a patty. I prefer the Japanese version though since it doesn't have the horrible engrish.

I played the version for the DS, and to me, the controls didnt feel right for the Wii, it felt like it was very poorly put together. Was not a fan.

Yeah, so I got hold of Cooking Mama the other day, and here's some basic impressions.
Okay, so, what is Cooking Mama?
It's basically a cooking-game.
You get a book with different recipes from
different nations all over the world,
and then you cook the meal of your choice,
step by step, from the peeling of potatoes
to the cutting of meat.
And after each step you get rated based on how well you did.
You can also practice doing each meal,
before actually 'doing' it.
There's also a multiplayer-mode, with up to two people, where you're competing over doing the best possible meal.
And now over to a "Q & A"-session.
Is it entertaining?
Yeah, no doubt about it.
Are the controls good?
So so, sometimes it's really good, and sometimes
you're just sitting waving your hand wondering what to do.
Does it have a good lasting appeal?
I think not.
You get like thirty recipes, and that's it.
Sure, you can replay the recipes to get a better
score, or play with a friend, but still....no.
What about the graphics?
Nah. I guess it's fair for this kind of game, though.
Any other complaints?
The speaker, wich is supposed to be "Mama",
sounds retarded. The reason? They hired a Japanese woman to do the English voice-acting! Stupid!
You know how that sounds!
Oh, and sometimes there's crappy English-text in game.
2 stars.
A short (?) review from me, MeTRoD.

Cooking Mama has an interesting concept, where you use the wiimote to cut, peel, chop, and stir food. It is also used to control the stove temperature and other things. It is pretty fun, and an execellent use of the wiimote.
However, the controls are not always accurate, leading to you spending 1 minute to peel 2 potatoes, or burning a stew. The game can also become fairly repetitive after awhile. Maybe rent it first before you spend mega bucks on it.

i am not that struck on it but my 4 year old loves it.

I enjoyed the novelty of the game at first. It makes good use of the motion controll, but gameplay fades fast. My wife and kids still enjoy it though.

It's ok... it gets a little boring and also it always tells me I'm doing things wrong even tho I try every single thing possible. It's cool to learn about the food though!

I wouldn't say this game is awful, but the short repetative motions caused my right arm to start hurting after just a short amount of time. At the end of every cooking exercise "Cooking Mama" says some comment about how well you cooked. There's only 3-4 different things she says, so it gets old very quickly. I am SO tired of hearing her say "Betah zan mah-mah!" (Better than Mama) in her bad accent.

I don't actually own the game, but i rented it.
Sure, it looks dumb, but it is actually really fun.
It's addicting, but once you unlock all the recipes, it gets boring.

A fun title, but hard to meet some goals substituting a stylus touching a pad with a remote held 3 feet away.

Cute, but I find the interface with wii remote tedious. The lack of more complex American dishes to prepare is in my opinion, embarassing. Overall it makes a decent rental but poor purchase.

Cooking Mama: Cook Off is a fun way to jump into the Wii. With 3 modes and Kitchen Bonus Unlockables,
it is an incredible Non-Gamery challenge. Let's Cook mode is the way to begin the Cooking Mama experience by yourself. The Wii Remote is an excellent kitchen utensil, with about 25 different moves to use. Friends and Food is the only mode I haven't played. That's the Multiplayer. Same kind of element to it. Each step to making the food is like a Mini-Game. That's what people aren't realizing. Friends and Food of the World is where the "Cook Off" element is. This one lets you compete, while playing by yourself. Though not to multiplayer friendly, Cooking Mama is sure to win at least a blue ribbon for her newest recepie.
Gameplay: 9.7 Depth: 10 Fun?:Yes Reccommendation 1-10: 9 Wii Remote Usage: 8.7
I think next time, they need to make more moves and recepies, and use your Mii!

Fun to play with friends. But too many actions for each of the cooking gestures makes the game confusing. Learning how to do each of the gestures are time consuming and takes away the fun of the game.

Cooking Mama DS is a decent game with good graphics. The Wii version is a step up in some ways, and a step down in others.
Some of the graphics seem to be rendered at actual resolution - which means when they start bouncing and spinning they look pixelated, distorted, and generally pretty ugly. That would likely be forgivable if the interface were not so cluttered. The 3D environments are a nice treat over the handheld, but with so much going on all over the place a simple background would have sufficed.
The controller, too, is a little loose, leaving some errors unpreventable, to some degree.
It's a good game if you're looking for it, but it's a bit underwhelming for someone who's just dabbling. I would expect the next installment to be a lot more polished.

This game was amusing. I like to cook, so it was also kind of a learning experience. The game itself was fairly decent and the controls a little simple. I was dissapointed with it, cuz I thought it would be a little more in depth. After a few rounds, it just got so repetitive. Liked the music though.
