It's a great update. Best of this week. As for watching people battle, I wonder if you can choose to watch the people in your friends list if they're on.
You solve the name problem by using "nicknames". Or how the CMO Channel does, using Mii's names.
It's just plain stupid.
And yet sadly Nintendo will apply the same exact principle to anything that has even the slightest potential to offend children. But I'd say on the whole the update was good, but you have a point about the name issue.

I actually think they'll add another much needed dimention to the game. I mean Melee was great and everything, but if they'd just essentially released a graphically updated version of it as "Brawl" it wouldn't have been anywhere near as good as Brawl is looking.
I'll be playing with the Smash Balls but I'm not going wi-fi until I get good with them. Right now, it looks like getting good at them will take weeks. Good thing I'm not going to need another game that year.
I just think Final Smashes are kind of cheap for example U can be winning the whole time somebody picks up the smash ball and boom you lose out of nowhere...its like losing a game in strikers in the last 10 seconds of the game...HORRIBLE feeling!
